Please be reminded that until 6 January 2014 it is possible to visit the TRAITS AND PORTRAITS. For Alberto. 33 Photographs by Fulvia Farassino exhibition, by curator Cesare Colombo. Organised for the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the demise of Alberto Farassino, the famous film critic and journalist for La Repubblica, the exhibition comprises 33 large-format photos selected from the huge archive of Fulvia Farassino, the wife of Alberto and a professional photographer: a tale through pictures, unusual portraits taken with the intent of capturing stars in unofficial moments, in life between the set, the backstage, stardom and festivals..

In addition, always until 6 January 2014, it is possible to view the photograph display IL PAESE CHE SONO IO! on the outer railings of the Mole Antonelliana, an exhibition with photographs, portraits and words, born from a meeting between photographer Andrea Guermani, artist Coco Cano and writer Anna Peiretti on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Fondazione Paideia.

The Christmas period will also feature activities for the public and for families, in particular two guided tours to the museum, on 26 December 2013 at 6 p.m. and on 1 January 2014 at 6 p.m.

Guided tour cost (1h30’) 3.50 € per person. Museum admission free for children up to 18 years accompanied by parents and escorts; adult concessions 9.00 €.

The customary rendez-vous with Sunday at last! will also continue during the Christmas holidays. Starting from 4.30 p.m., the National Cinema Museum will offer play-and-learn activities dedicated to children within the new Paideia Hall, linked to a visit at an Archaeology of Cinema or Cinema Machine showcase section.

Every Sunday afternoon (22/29.12.2013 and 05.01.2014 at 4.30 p.m.). Duration: 1h30’, max 20 per group. Suggested ages: 5-12 years. Adults accompanying the children can choose whether to watch the laboratory or visit the Museum for the duration of the activities. Activities cost 4.00 € per child. Museum admission for accompaniers 2.50 € per person.

-       22 December 2013, 4.30 p.m. – Movement illusions.

Children can see the mechanisms of moving images revealed, which are at the basis of cartoons and cinema, through the construction of some nineteenth century optical games inspired by the Museum collections, reviewed in a Christmas version. Suggested ages: 5-8 years.

-       29 December 2013, 4.30 p.m. - Photography in cinema.

By experimenting with different types of lighting, the children will understand in what way quality, the direction and the intensity of a source of light can influence how an object or a face is perceived by the spectator and what the role of light is in producing significance in filmic images. Suggested ages: 8-12 years.

-       5 January 2014, 4.30 p.m. – The magic of special effects.

Starting from the extraordinary experiments made the filmmaker-conjuror Georges Méliès, a great pioneer of illusory cinema, participants may retrace the evolution of visual effects, from silent to digital cinema, arriving at the spellbinding magic of the more modern and famous cinema magician, Harry Potter. Suggested ages: 8-12 years

For the occasion of Epiphany, an extra date on 6 January at 4.30 p.m. for tiny-tots, with Befana at last!

Legends tell that Mother Nature, worn out on the eve of 6 January after giving all her energies year-round, appears in the shape of a benign little old woman who flies around the skies on her broom bringing gifts and sweets to children. It will be possible to discover special film effects and participants will be able to fly on the broom disguised as the Befana!

Suggested ages 5-12 years. Activity cost (1h30’) 4.00 € per child. Museum admission for children free; parents and escorts 2.50 € per person.

The Library/Mediatheque and the Archive will remain closed to the public from Tuesday 24 December 2013 to Friday 10 January 2014 included. Services will resume regularly on Monday 13 January 2014.
