Homage to Prince with the film trilogy: Albert Magnoli’s "Purple Rain", and Prince’s "Under the Cherry Moon" and "Graffiti Bridge".

Cinema Massimo – 15-22-29 June 2018, 20.30 – Sala Tre

The Soundframes exhibition, which runs through 7 January 2019 at the Mole Antonelliana, will include a film series in homage to Prince, one of the flamboyant performers who rose to fame in the 1980s. The series will be held by the National Museum of Cinema and shown at the Cinema Massimo.

Following on a huge publicity campaign, the film Purple Rain, produced and with Prince in the lead role, and Albert Magnoli in his directorial debut, was released worldwide on 31 August 1984. An immediate box office hit in the U.S., the film enabled Prince, second to the Beatles, to place at the top of the lists the film, the film soundtrack album, and the opening song, When Doves Cry, which also garnered an Oscar for Best Original Song Score. Thus began a filmmaking career that would showcase the unexplored talents of the musician from Minneapolis.
