On Monday 7 June 2010 at 8.30 p.m. at the Cinema Massimo, the National Cinema Museum presents the conference-performance Le torri d’avorio sono crollate: lo scienziato come attore sociale Le torri d’avorio sono crollate: lo scienziato come attore sociale (The ivory towers have fallen down: the scientist as a social player) curated by the scientific scholar and journalist Matteo Merzagora. Admission to this event is free.

The conference will feature a discussion on the portrayal of the figure of the scientist in the history of film, following its evolution in relation to society. From the figure of the scientist as a marginal character, to the contemporary  figure, relating directly to the worlds of politics, economy and industry.  During the conference scenes and sequences from films which reflect on scientist and the world of science will be shown and discussed.
