The origins of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema date back to 1941, when Maria Adriana Prolo conceived the idea of creating a museum dedicated to collecting and preserving documents relating to Turin’s film industry.
The Museo Nazionale del Cinema has always been committed to documenting and cataloguing the extensive collection in its care. Part of its heritage is available online.
The Museum’s extensive holdings comprise more than 3.250.000 items, including films, archival documents, photographs, equipment and artworks, posters, film memorabilia, books and sound recordings...
Open on Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema’s Library and Mediatheque is one of the most prestigious in Europe. Its holdings include books, periodicals, hundreds of dictionaries, encyclopaedias and bibliographies, as well as Italian and international film journals.
The Historical Archives are open by appointment only on Tuesdays, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
A documentary collection of unparalleled richness and significance, both in scope and content, the Archive preserves unique and previously unpublished materials relating to the history of cinema.
Since September 2020, a digital restoration laboratory has been operating at the Museo Nazionale del Cinema’s Film Archive. This new technological facility was created
with the aim of strengthening the Museum’s policies for the preservation, conservation, restoration and accessibility of the film materials in its collection.
