Panoramic Terrace

The journey in the Panoramic Lift does not end inside the dome but continues up to the terrace of the crown, the tempietto—to use Antonelli’s own terminology—located 85 metres above the ground. From here, the view extends across the whole of Turin: the rooftops of the eighteenth-century Savoy city, the greenery along the River Po and the Alps, which frame the horizon with an almost cinematic precision.

From this height, visitors can also admire the spire of the Mole at close range. It was rebuilt after being brought down by a violent storm in 1953. This vantage point reveals Antonelli’s remarkable construction technique: no iron and no metal framework, but load-bearing masonry alone, capable of supporting an immense structure and defying the engineering calculations of the time.

For many visitors, this is the most unexpected moment of the entire experience: the transition from the darkness of the Museum to the direct light of the city itself.
