Through a selection of photographs from the collections of the National Cinema Museum and the Museum of the Shroud, the exhibit shows the important work of photographer Secondo Pia, best known for having created in May of 1898 exceptional photographs that reveal the true face of the Shroud.

Housed in Palazzo Barolo, the exhibit is organized in three sections: Tracce della memoria, that gathers some of the most significant photographs taken by Pia of the Piedmont territory; Immagini del sacro, with the famous photographs of the Shroud; Il colore, with an extraordinary selection of autochromes.

Secondo Pia produced the first wide-ranging photographic record of Piedmont’s artistic and architectural heritage. Regione Piemonte is committed to the cataloguing, digital conversion and conservation of these photographs.

A selection of photographs by Secondo Pia retained by the National Cinema Museum will be available soon online.
