LE MANI SULLA VERITÀ - 100 anni di Francesco Rosi

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Francesco Rosi with the exhibition LE MANI SULLA VERITÀ - 100 anni di Francesco Rosi (Hands on Truth. 100 years of Francesco Rosi), curated by Domenico De Gaetano and Carolina Rosi, with Mauro Genovese and Maria Procino.

The tribute is set up on the reception floor of the Mole Antonelliana and free admission.

The exhibition aims to commemorate one of the great masters of cinema and retrace his work, outlining the profound mark left by a figure who was able to combine cinematic art with civil commitment, and who deeply influenced both Italian and international cinema.

Focusing on five particularly significant titles from the director’s rich filmography, the exhibition is a multimedia journey that uses new technologies to spark the interest of younger generations in important themes that remain highly relevant today. Each section features set photographs, posters, statements by the director and original materials from the archive of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, and is introduced by videos created by exceptional testimonials, capable of presenting the themes addressed by Rosi from a contemporary perspective.

The aim is to celebrate and reveal Francesco Rosi’s work to new generations, bringing them closer to his art at a historical moment such as the one we are living through, in which the social aftermath of the pandemic is intertwined with new uncertainties and fears of war.

The exhibition tells the story of Francesco Rosi from multiple perspectives: the “difficult” filmmaker of civil commitment, of stories that reveal an Italy marked by obscure mechanisms, through a rigorous and tenacious search for sources; the director of works that represent a moral and spiritual journey, asking the viewer to think, to enter the chiaroscuro of reason; the artist who creates stories to reach different sensibilities and encourage collective reflection among younger generations, who are destined to face a demanding commitment as citizens in building the future of the country.

To accompany the exhibition, Cinema Massimo presents a tribute from 15 to 21 November, opening on Tuesday 15 with a screening of Cristo si è fermato a Eboli (Christ Stopped at Eboli).

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, a series of free educational activities for schools will be offered, thanks to the contribution of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Mission Structure for the Enhancement of National Anniversaries and the Participatory Dimension of the Younger Generations.

There will also be a special opening of the Historical Archive of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin for consultation of materials from the Rosi collection, preserved by the Museum.

Celebratory initiatives are also planned in Naples, in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and the Film Commission Regione Campania.

The project has received the approval and support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, by decree of the Minister for Youth Policies, as part of the enhancement of national anniversaries and the participatory dimension of the younger generations.
