IL GUARDIANO DEI NOSTRI INCUBI
The Museo Nazionale del Cinema presents IL GUARDIANO DEI NOSTRI INCUBI (The Guardian Of Our Nightmares), a collection of 21 plates taken from the monographic issue of LINUS — May 2022 — published by La nave di Teseo and dedicated to Dario Argento on the occasion of DARIO ARGENTO – THE EXHIBIT.
Hosted on the evocative reception floor of the Mole Antonelliana, the exhibition brings together the plates which, through the different styles of each artist, narrate and give life to just as many contemporary visions of Dario Argento and his works. These visions engage visitors and draw them one step further into the dreamlike universe that Argento’s cinema invites every viewer to approach and enter.
Graphic line and word thus become the guiding thread of this journey of discovery into the master of suspense, his personal style and his original, unique vision within the world of cinematic storytelling — a vision that cannot be traced back to any other author. In his works, Dario Argento has always looked to the other arts as well — music, painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and design — drawing them into and towards his films in a play of references and interweavings.
The exhibition route alternates images and texts: from Igort’s editorial to texts by Giuseppe Sansonna, Domenico De Gaetano and Marcello Garofalo, Piera Detassis, Roberto Pugliese, Adriano Ercolani, and Davide Pulci, including an interview with Sergio Stivaletti.
Above all, visitors can discover a Dario Argento reinvented through portraits of the director created by Alice Iuri, Riccardo Mannelli, Francesco Ripoli and Stefano Zattera; through illustrations inspired by films or posters by Stefano Bessoni, Grazia La Padula, Leila Marzocchi, Isabella Mazzanti, Valentina Napolitano and Sergio Ponchione; and through comics created by Sergio Algozzino, Giuseppe Pollicelli & Sudario Brando, Massimo Giacon, Danilo Maramotti and Squaz.
The plates on display have been donated to the Museo Nazionale del Cinema.
The exhibition is curated by Domenico De Gaetano, Marcello Garofalo and Elisabetta Sgarbi.
