Sotto il segno di Volonté. Dalle collezioni del Museo Nazionale del Cinema

The tribute set up in the new exhibition spaces of the Mario Gromo Library of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, scheduled from 17 May to 15 September, 2017, is dedicated to Gian Maria Volonté — a timeless, restless, rebellious and nonconformist actor.

The exhibition SOTTO IL SEGNO DI VOLONTÉ (Under the Sign of Volonté) stems from the desire to celebrate one of the most important performers in Italian cinema of all time through the precious materials recently donated to the Museo Nazionale del Cinema by the actor’s daughter, Giovanna Gravina.

The tribute presents documents that bear witness in particular to the final decades of Volonté’s long career, enriched by materials from the collections of the Historical Archive, the Mario Gromo Library, and by a number of especially significant photographs from the Photo Library of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema.

Gian Maria Volonté, both for the roles he played throughout his career and for the consistency he always pursued in his life choices, belongs to the category of the freest and, at the same time, most politically committed artists. He took part in controversial, uncomfortable and censored films, telling truths ahead of their time, truths not yet widely known, and personally exposing himself to criticism and retaliation.

The tribute to the great actor was created with the aim of outlining a portrait of the man and the artist through the materials recently donated to the Museo Nazionale del Cinema by his daughter, Giovanna Gravina.

Admission to the exhibition is free, subject to free registration with the Library and presentation of an identity document. 

The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the exception of August, when the Library will be closed from 7, August to 25, August inclusive.
