PLANET AFRICA is presenting Lutz Gregor’s documentary Mali Blues about sonorities in Mali.

First rendez-vous for PLANET AFRICA, within CreativAfrica, with the presentation of the documentary Mali Blues by Lutz Gregor. A tribute to contemporary music in Mali, in which the origins of Blues and Jazz may be glimpsed.

"In political terms, we haven’t understood a thing. But musically, I believe we do understand something”, says singer Fatoumata Diawara, among the protagonists of this documentary, summing up her point of view on the situation in Mali, a country where music has been banned after Islamists took control of the north of the country.

An extraordinary journey into sound, between tradition and electric guitars, to discover one of the most interesting contemporary musical scenes. The protagonists include worldwide-famed composer and singer Fatoumata Diawara, but also Ahmed Ag Kaedi, Bassekou Kouyaté and Master Soumy. Mali Blues portrays these important musicians and receives their words about the political situation, about the importance of music for the body and the spirit and as a unifying element.
