InTO Cinema

Wednesday September 13, 2023

The National Museum of Cinema in Turin is launching the InTO Cinema project, a new platform developed to extend the enjoyment of the museum's cultural and cinematographic offer to online visitors and to attract and engage school and non-school audiences on a national and international scale in the activities offered by the institution.

InTO Cinema has been realised thanks to the contribution of the SWITCH Strategies and tools for digital transformation bid by the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, with the support of the technological partner Piemonte Innova, and in collaboration with SwitchUp and Ex Idea.

"The aim of InTO Cinema is to go beyond the physical confines of the museum and reach a national and international audience," emphasise Enzo Ghigo and Domenico De Gaetano, president and director respectively of the National Museum of Cinema, "by broadening the ways in which it can be enjoyed and by digitising channels and content. We are responding to the constant demand to enhance the museum's heritage by fostering participation, engagement and access to cultural content. The project is a solid basis for future developments and only marks the beginning of a path that is part of the museum's long-term assets".

"The Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo works to support the technological transformation of cultural institutions in order to accelerate their digital transition, the development of culture and innovation skills within them, the hybridisation with the technological world, and their own economic sustainability," says Matteo Bagnasco, Head of Objective Culture at the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. In this perspective, in recent years, it has supported the National Museum of Cinema in its digital transition with different tools, aware of the significant role that technologies can play today as strong amplifiers of the social impact of the work of cultural institutions".

The InTO Cinema platform can be accessed by registering for free and reaching the HALL, the homepage that gives access to 5 sections:

EVENTS: here you can find video galleries of openings, masterclasses, meetings with directors, actors and other film professionals. It is possible to directly access live streams by booking.

TRAINING: this section hosts streaming lectures, video lectures and other insights dedicated to teachers to support film literacy in the classroom. These are complemented by multimedia content for schools and documentation of special projects and current exhibitions. There will also be high-level training sessions of the Turin Film Lab.

EXPERIENCES and EXHIBITIONS: in this area of the platform users can enjoy virtual experiences and digital content never seen before on the National Museum of Cinema and temporary exhibitions, browsing through catalogues, watching or listening to interviews with directors and actors.

VIRTUAL ROOM: this is in fact the video gallery of all the films on the platform, from a selection of silent shorts.

AGENDA: this is where all the museum's online appointments, live broadcasts or streamed films are listed.

A trial period of InTO Cinema has yielded decidedly encouraging results: 13,114 students took part in the first sessions of the School in the Front Row programme between January and May 2023 using the platform's video conference and live streaming services.
