PRIZE CABIRIA 2016 – MUSEO NAZIONALE DEL CINEMA

The National Cinema Museum in Turin established the PREMIO CABIRIA in 2015, an important prize awarded annually to a filmmaker, an actor or an actress who have particularly distinguished themselves for their activities during the year with their contribution to the art of film.

The Prize is named after the Italian silent film masterpiece made in Turin by Giovanni Pastrone in 1914, which became a source of inspiration for countless artists all over the world, who contributed with their creativity to the development of the language and aesthetics of cinema.

This second edition of the award will also take place concurrently with the 34th Torino Film Festival, in order to highlight its connection with the most important cinematographic event of the year in town.

The recipient will be ALBA ROHRWACHER, during a charity dinner in favour of the Fondazione Crescere Insieme al Sant’Anna Onlus, which is taking place on Tuesday 22 November at the Principi di Piemonte Hotel starting from 8.30 p.m.

“Alba Rohrwacher’s entrance into the movie scene took place on tiptoe and with the customary delicacy distinguishing the appearance of this only seemingly most fragile actress in Italian cinema. Her fine, poised features conceal a firm temperament, unusual courage and immense talent. In just twelve years, Alba has established herself as the most sensitive, gifted and versatile young actress, beloved with the same intensity by established authors, first-time directors and the general audience, which is rediscovering the passion and talent of the great actresses who made the history of our cinema, in her. Alba dedicates herself to every film and every new character which she gives life to with the same generosity that characterises her: whether it is about learning Albanian in a few months (as in Sworn Virgin by Laura Bispuri) or donning the robes of a mother obsessed by her son’s health (in Hungry Hearts by Saverio Costanzo, which garnered her the Coppa Volpi at the Venice Film Festival in 2014). The humility she presents herself with, coexists with her rebel spirit, and is the measure of her uncommon sensitivity and spontaneity.” 

The dinner, which is set to be at the highest levels, is entrusted to four star-bedecked chefs: Gian Piero Vivalda from the Antica Corona Reale restaurant in Cervere, Maurilio Garola from La Ciau del Tornavento restaurant in Treiso, Davide Palluda from All’Enoteca in Canale and Giuseppe Ricchebuono from Il Vescovado in Noli.

The dinner will be accompanied by songs from famous films performed by singers Martina Tosatto and Davide Motta Fré.
