A new film about the silent era at the National Cinema Museum, produced for the large screens of the Aula del Tempio hall.

National Cinema Museum – 21 November 2010, at 6.30 p.m.

Ten years after its inauguration, the National Cinema Museum has been revamped once more, with the presentation of The splendour of the silent, a new selection of silent films which will be shown on the large screens in the Aula del Tempio hall, replacing the film produced for the inauguration of the museum in July 2000. The edited film was given a soundtrack thanks to a new score, specially written and recorded by Stefano Maccagno and performed by the Trio Debussy. The score’s composition and exclusive premiere at the Mole Antonelliana on the 21st of November 2010 at 6.30 p.m. are the result of a partnership between the National Cinema Museum and the Merkurio Progetti Musicali association.

At the end of the performance, Alberto Barbera, the museum’s director, and Claudia Gianetto, the director of the Film Restoration Department, will introduce the first screening of the new anthology Splendore del muto (The Splendour of the silent) (35mm, black/white and colour, 18’10’’, 2010), with a synchronised musical accompaniment. Admission with a museum entrance ticket: €7.00, discounted tickets €5.00.

Before the museum presentation there will be a conference at Palazzo Chiablese at 5.00 p.m., during which Claudia Gianetto and Stefano Maccagno will present Sounds and Images at the National Cinema Museum, a cultural interdisciplinary project involving the National Cinema Museum and the Merkurio Progetti Musicali association. Admission to the conference is free.
